Christmas in a Box - Performance Art at Muse

Christmas in a Box   Friday Dec. 21st - 7 pm at Muse Winery

An evening of fun, lively entertainment, poetry, music and art being created before your eyes!  Join us at Muse Winery for this very special evening with Heather Burns, Carla Funk, Rose Cowles and special guest Joey Smith and Paul O'Brien.

The show combines music, painting and poetry, and showcases each of these artists, as well as accompanying band members.  In a spirit of spontaneity, improvisation and play, Funk, Burns and Cowles merge the rhythms and textures of their artistic genres into an event that is new with every performance.  Throughout the show, Funk weaves spoken word with the music, sometimes bringing words to the silences between songs, and other times reading poems while the musicians improvise. On one side of the stage, Cowles begins with a large blank canvas, and, inspired by the words and music performed throughout the show, fills it with lush colour and images.
Audiences agree that each performance is an engaging mosaic of the visual, musical, and literary arts.  Its uniquely collaborative spirit creates a space where the audience feels as much a part of the show as the performers.  Entirely entertaining for all, and leaves you feeling sorry the show has ended.
“Christmas in the Box”....was a unique experience that brought a sense of peace and joy in a season where it can be hard to find such moments. The music was fun and familiar and a relief from canned carols, the stories and poems ignited your imagination until you felt like you were sitting by a crackling fire in a classic Christmas card...and  the art was unfolding before your eyes like a present being slowly unwrapped  to your utter delight. I can't wait for next year.

Saanich Peninsula Studio Tour-Oct 20-21, 2012

The Saanich Peninsula Studio Tour is on this coming weekend, October 20-21st.  The tour hours are 11 am to 4 pm, but the winery will remain open until our regular 5 pm.  Muse Winery is listed as Studio #19 on the map and we'll have plenty of maps on hand in case you want to make us a start point to pick up a copy.

We'll have Barry Tate with us at the winery for the tour.  Barry brings a huge portfolio of acrylic & giclee paintings and prints.  His style is eclectic Westcoast, so there is something for everyone. Barry lives on Piers Island and has been showing at the winery for about 15 years now.  Where does the time go!
We have 2 new artists to the winery this year, first is Sandra Fowler.  Sandra is the first LEED AP qualified artist in Canada. Sandra produces glass works for both architectural installation and free standing sculptures. Bringing the unusual into the commonplace allows people to enjoy beauty while understanding the benefits of energy from the sun &
photovoltaic sculptures.  Check out her website for details on the process.   www.sandrafowlerpvartstudio.com
Last but not least is Don Bastian, wood carver, furniture maker, "that wood guy in Sidney"!

Check out his website for a look at what he has to offer! He even makes Wine boxes- we think those are quite fitting for a bottle of Muse Winery Grand Dame Rouge!

We look forward to seeing you out the for tour and rumour has it the sun will come out again by then.
The Tasting Room will be open 11 am to 5 pm both days.

This ranks high up on the aaaawe factor and quite possibly the "Did I just see???"

In the days of the Wild Wild West, you'd leave your horse at the hitching post and have yourself a Sarsaparilla!

We're still a little on the Wild side in a civilized sort of way, so if you're feeling parched on the Peninsula, mozey on over to Muse Winery and try a tasting flight of the best summer sippers - Ortega, Bacchus and Pinot Gris.
Bistro Muse is open Thursday to Sunday 11 am to 4 pm if you'd like to add some gourmet fare to that flight of wines.

100 Mile Diet...No only 2!

When others struggle to stay within the confines of the 100 Mile Diet, we have to think how lucky we are here on the Saanich Peninsula.  The bounty in this photo is less than 2 miles!

This photo comes from a neighbour only a few hundred yards from Muse Winery.  All the produce in the picture is from Hazelmere Farms, just a quarter of a mile from the winery.  Five growers in our neighbourhood share and sell their produce from their farms at this roadside stand on Tatlow Road in Deep Cove. There's a wide variety of  vegetables of the season and the stall is open throughout the year.

Thanks for the picture Jimmy and our Ramblin' Rose looks scrumptous with those lovely red potatoes, onions and squash.

What time was dinner?
